The objectives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security:

• To conduct applied research or production oriented research and provide technical services that will generate market oriented and demand driven technologies to be utilized by the farming community and other stakeholders

• To improve agricultural productivity by promoting the adoption of improved agricultural technologies through increased contact with farmers using appropriate and well targeted messages to farmer groups, associations and co-operatives.

• To increase the area under improved soil and water conservation practices and area under improved soil fertility technologies.

• To create an enabling environment for irrigated agriculture by facilitating and encouraging the private sector to invest in irrigation development and encourage rural communities to manage irrigation projects in order to fully utilize irrigable land in Malawi.

• To promote and increase sustainable livestock production
