The Vision of the Ministry is to have a high quality Foreign Service that contributes to an economically advanced and secure Malawi. |
Mission Statement
The Mission of the Ministry is to formulate, interpret and implement Malawi Government’s Foreign Policy that promotes the country’s interests abroad with emphasis on development diplomacy. |
Objectives
The main objectives of the Ministry are:
- To establish, manage and maintain a Career Diplomatic Service that will entail placement in the Foreign Service of high calibre personnel with capacity to facilitate and coordinate economic activities relating to trade, tourism, investment and foreign assistance as well as coordinate activities related to regional and international cooperation and integration.
- To facilitate the promotion and maintenance of sound and effective socio-political relations between Malawi and the rest of the World.
- To facilitate the promotion of peace and international security.
- To ensure an efficient and effective delivery of Protocol Services.

Strategic Objectives and their related Strategies
The Strategic Plan of the Ministry entails:
- Promoting trade, investment and tourism through participation in bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation agreements or arrangements.
- Seeking to play a role in mobilising external resources in the form of capital and technical assistance.
- Participating in activities of treaty bodies established under International Human rights instruments to which Malawi is a party.
- Seeking to attract foreign direct investment from both developed and South-South countries in accordance with its policy of development diplomacy.
- Endeavouring to secure sustainable markets for Malawi products in developing and developed countries.
- Endeavouring to establish diplomatic ties with countries in Eastern Europe, South and Central America, Asia, and the Pacific, and the Middle East including the Gulf States with a view to establishing trade relations with the countries in the said regions of the world.
