The Department of Energy is under Ministry of Mines, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs. The Department  is situated in Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi. The department is carrying out a number of programs and projects in order to achieve its objectives which are guided by its vision,  mission, and policies and legislation There are a number of investment opportunities in the Energy sector for the private sector to utilize.

The Vision
To be a dynamic, high performance department that effectively governs and promotes use of affordable and reliable modern sources of energy by all sectors of the national economy without comprising environmental, health and safety impacts.

The Mission
The mission  of the  Department is to :

To fully satisfy public need for quality modern energy services by effectively governing and facilitating the development of the robust, sustainable and efficient private sector-driven energy industry.

  • Ensure economic efficiency in the supply of liquid fuels and their utilization of affordable prices
  • Promote and increase utilization of sustainable renewable energy
  • Increase utilization of coal and other alternative energy sources.
