The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture was renamed in November, 2002 from the Ministry of Sports and Culture when the department of Youth Affairs, which was then under the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Community Services was transferred to Sports and Culture. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture assumed the ministerial status in order to directly create and promote Malawi’s national identity. All the three departments have their head offices at the ministry headquarters. Apart from these head offices they also have offices in various places for management and coordination purposes. The Department of Youth Affairs has regional and district offices throughout the country responsible for coordinating youth activities. The Department of Sports has offices situated Kamuzu Stadium Grounds in Blantyre. These Offices are responsible for the Management of this National Sports facility. The Department of Culture has divisional offices of Arts and Crafts, Antiquities in the capital city, National Archives in Zomba, while Censorship Board and Museums of Malawi are in Blantyre. The Ministry realizes the need for the country to have purpose built stadia, archival building and national museum in the capital city. |

The Mission of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture is to uphold and promote the Malawian national identity and unity in diversity through Youth empowerment promotion and management of Sports and recreational activities, tangible and intangible national heritage for posterity, education, socio-economic growth, recreation and poverty alleviation. |
