Hon.
Henry Duncan Phoya was born in 1966. He has been Member of Parliament for
Blantyre Rural East Constituency since 2001 when he was first elected upon
joining politics.
He holds an Honors Bachelor of Laws Degree from Chancellor College, University of Malawi.
After graduating, he joined the Civil Service in 1992 as a State Advocate. Hon Phoya quit the Civil Service the same year to work for the legal firm, Wilson and Morgan. After working for the company for about five years, he left to set up his own legal firm.
Hon. Phoya was co-opted into the United Democratic Front National Executive Committee in 2002, and was Attorney General and Minister of Justice from 2002-2003. In 2004, he was Minister of Privatization.
He was re-elected Member of Parliament for Blantyre Rural East Constituency in June 2004 and appointed Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in the same year.
He is married and has two children.
