The ministry of Irrigation and Water Development is ranked as the second priority area in the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS). This is the case due to its direct linkages with agriculture and energy generation. Needless to say, water is a catalyst for sustainable economic development as it is used for many purposes such as domestic use, in industries, energy generation, and agriculture. In this regard, the government has prioritized this sector to improve infrastructure services in the country that would eventually contribute to the sustainable economic growth and development.
